ABOUTUS
MALEVO, widely known as “The South American Sensation,” was created by director, choreographer, and dancer Matías Jaime. The company has reimagined the Argentine dance of Malambo, transforming a traditional folkloric form—originally performed by the Gauchos of the Pampas—into a bold, modern, avant-garde, and transgressive theatrical experience.
While preserving the raw virility, strength, and technical virtuosity that define Malambo, MALEVO elevates the dance by fusing its classical foundations with other movement styles and incorporating powerful live percussion on stage.
Driven by a pulsating rhythm of drums, the choreography combines the dynamic use of boleadoras—a traditional leather-and-stone hunting tool used by Gauchos—with lightning-fast footwork, explosive zapateados (stomping), and rapid cepillados (brushing movements). The result is a performance of relentless energy, precision, and visual impact.
MALEVO creates thrilling, high-intensity shows that push Malambo beyond its traditional limits, offering audiences an extraordinary visual and sensory experience unlike any other.
Recognized as “Cultural Ambassadors of the National Identity of Argentina,” the company has achieved remarkable international success. Their career highlights include performances in Las Vegas, New York, Dubai, Paris, Australia, London, London, Russia, Spain, Canada, Qatar, China and Japan, as well as special invitations to collaborate with Cirque du Soleil. MALEVO has also created Malambo choreographies for Ricky Martin’s Las Vegas show, completed a year-long performance season at Universal Studios Osaka, appeared on Norwegian Cruise Line, and reached the semi-finals of the hit television show America’s Got Talent.
The company has performed at major international festivals such as Juste Pour Rire and Le Incroyable (Canada), La France a un Incroyable Talent (France), and some of the world’s most prestigious events, including Global Village (Dubai), Festival de Santa Lucía (Mexico), Lollapalooza Argentina, Dance Open (Russia), the Gastronomic Culinary Festival (Spain), the Monte Carlo Historique Rally Anniversary, and the International Circus Festival (Argentina), among many others.
Sony Latin America produced a television special titled “Malevo Has Talent,” broadcast across Spanish-speaking countries. In addition, the company founded Malevo Art Factory, an online educational platform dedicated to teaching Malambo and other dance disciplines to students around the world.
Currently, MALEVO is touring internationally with its acclaimed production “Xtreme Malambo”, while simultaneously developing new large-scale productions that continue to expand the boundaries of contemporary folk dance.
